66%? I guess that will do.

So just in the last few days I've been bombarded by people requesting hunter specs for either their mains or alts. I figured I'd just slap them up here then fully updated with paragraphs of worthless information in my usual format. So until then enjoy these lite versions. Keep in mind that these are simply suggestions and can be tailored around your play style. Until you are hit capped, you can (and should) pull from the exisiting talents to put them into Focused Aim in order to be hit capped. You cannot DPS what you cannot hit, so make sure to to be hit capped first and foremost. See my post on the hunter hit cap for more information.

Updated 04/21/09 - I am currently using the MM build listed below. I have found that, gear reliant, this spec can provide just as much DPS has the popular SURV builds. I also have found it works well side by side with hunters using SURV builds. It would seem that Blizzard is 66% to goal on making the three hunter trees raid viable.

Survival Build

This is not a locked and loaded build. I have found that the three points required to cap LnL is too expensive. The main proc would be a 10% chance on periodic Black Arrow damage and the three points are just not worth spending for the extra DPS gained. This spec will have real trouble against fire immune targets (ES is all fire damage). There are not many of these situations in the current content, but the issue may arise.

Shot Rotation:
/castsequence reset=5 Explosive Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot
/cast [target=pettarget,exists] Kill Command
/castrandom Black Arrow
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Marksmanship Build

Something to note about this build, it is very reliant on gear. Unless you have the AP (+5000), Crit (+35%), and Hit (8%) unbuffed this build is less than ideal. The idea of this spec is to provide consistant DPS through bleeds, stings, and high power shots. While MM has been known as a very bursty damage dealing spec in the past, compared to modern SURV specs, MM has a more consistant tone. None the less, this spec has done very well for me. A macro can be used for ease of use on single target fights. Make sure to sting the target with serpent first and Chimera will refresh the sting. If for some reason it falls off, make sure to reapply before continuing the rotation. For AOE mob packs, use Multi-shot and Volley while MS is on cool down. These are both talented with this spec and will do serious dps. Also there is no push back on volley which is useful with the current contents liberal application of raid damage. This spec will have damage issues against any mob immune to stings. A large portion of MM damage is from periodic SrS damage as well as the damage increase for Chimera Shot. Luckily, MM hunters still have Aimed and Arcane Shot to deal damage. Also, sting immune targets are not frequent in the current content.
